Painting a Flower Garden Mural in my Daughter’s Bedroom

July 22, 2007

After painting Trains Chugging through the Colorado Rockies in my son’s room, and painting Under the Sea in my kids’ bathroom, I turned my daughter’s room into a flower garden.

I used the Donna Dewberry painting technique to paint a huge tree with a swing (my daugher adores swings) with a pretty floral hat in the swing, the first thing I see as we enter her bedroom door.

A few years later we installed her desktop, a faux limestone that is super easy to clean for all her craft projects.

Together we hot glued brightly colored gerbera daisies to her bulletin board.

Then I painted a garden fence around the bottom sections of the walls.

Coordinating her bookcases with the mural, they were painted green, too.

I found the smaller bookcase that looks like garden fencing at Hobby Lobby.

However we found the other bookcase on the side of the road years ago.

Needing a new backing, we bought some wood for that, then painted it colonial blue to hold my cookbooks in my kitchen.

When we moved here, my daughter inherited the bookcase.

All the garden elements are from Hobby Lobby: pictures, butterflies, wrought iron end table, pink and purple accessories.

Even the headboard is from Hobby Lobby, which of course I painted green.

That summer I also sewed a Double Irish Garden themed quilt for her.

All the details about the quilt I sewed for her is at this link.

To complement the quilt I sewed a bed skirt with a dark purple background and a netting overlay.

Inside I had slipped large colorful silk gerbera daisies from Hobby Lobby to pop against the purple bedskirt.

I also sewed curtains for her window to coordinate.
