We’ve just returned home from another trip to Colonial Williamsburg, where my daughter debuted her latest styles with her brother at our annual favorite seasonal spot in the Governor’s Palace Gardens.
Sadly I completely forgot to take pictures of her wearing her pink gown on Saturday.
However on Sunday we captured a few lovely shots in the stunning gardens at the Governor’s Palace.
On this day my daughter wore the jacket I drafted based on a previous jacket I had sewn for her, as a surprise for her birthday.
Since she has been busy away at college, the time for required fittings is extremely limited, so I did my best by measuring from her other jacket.
Likewise, the pink gown was draped on a dress form which was her stand in while at college.
I can’t believe it’s been five years since my kids first requested historically accurate costumes for the three of us to wear as a historical family in Colonial Williamsburg.
What an adventure learning how to sew historical clothing by hand for the three of us in such a short space of time, to have time to enjoy wearing them in the historic area.
This was our first trip to Colonial Williamsburg this year.
My daughter is currently in college, my son is entering college, and both have obtained summer jobs.
Our limited travel time is now more limited, as they have grown up.
The best years of our lives were the historical journeys in historical clothing in the historic area of Colonial Williamsburg, and all the tailors and milliners who made our path easier through guidance along the way.
Hopefully we will soon return in costume…
Meanwhile, we will never forget…
