Sewing, Packing, and Planning amid Cherry Blossoms

March 28, 2022

After our lovely dinner on our big night, my kids were waiting to hear the official news and see the new ring!

ENGAGEMENT RING FITTING

Since my ring was a bit loose, I returned for my best fitting at Jerry’s Occoquan Jewelers, where Brenda was wonderful to work with, from selection to fittings and beyond.

As the little historic town of Occoquan was the site where W and I grew to know each other, that’s where W wanted to select our rings.

MY SON’S UPCOMING WEDDING

Busily planning the details for my own wedding, I also helped my son (B) and his fiancée (S) with their plans.

While they hung out with my on the weekends, attending to their busy lists, they asked me all sorts of questions…which allowed a fun peek into their many plans.

When my granddaughter joined us in helping S pick out her wedding dress, little Miss M started twirling amid the gowns.

Later, I joined S and B on a planning trip at their chosen wedding venue, which will be quite lovely.

LAST MINUTE SEWING

Meanwhile, I sewed one last item that would come in useful for my own busy days ahead.

With fabric purchased when I first moved to Virginia, I sewed the tropical upholstery fabric into a garment bag and travel bag, while aligning the prints of the zipper seam and the pockets to the main background.

As all that happened, I packed all my stuff for my future home.

ELOPEMENT PLANS

And because our wedding date was suddenly moved up, to accomodate the sudden end of my apartment lease, where a month to month rental I had previously planned shot through the roof, we altered our plans.

After much discussion and back and forth of wedding plans, with the kids in our lives as our attendants, we set that aside temporarily.

Especially due to all the concerns about the dreaded world-wide disease, W didn’t want any spread to threaten our guests.

So, we planned an elopement, with future plans for a real wedding with our kids in attendance.

Although my kids were disheartened by this decision, they highly anticipated the real wedding ceremony.

Finding a lovely historical place, I made all the phone calls, we gained our marriage license, I finished packing, and moving day finally came.

CHERRY BLOSSOM SEASON

During all the busy…the beautiful cherry blossoms bloomed all around…

On the day my son and I moved out of our apartment, the moving van sat under the cherry tree at the entrance to our apartment.

Although the weather was comfortably warm, the skies threatened rain…

Not a drop of rain, and the skies soon cleared…

Meanwhile I ensured all my special attire for our special week away was ready to go…

After returning my key to the apartment, I closed out the Lake Ridge chapter of my life at the nearby grove of elegant cherry blossoms, wafting ethereal shades of pink and white about me.
