My Son’s Rustic Barn Wedding with his Sweetheart

August 1, 2022

After all the flurry of preparations, from creating decor to preparing flowers then fixing gowns, and so much more, my son (B) married the love of his life (S).

Here are a few of my favorite memories I snapped with my phone…

My two year old granddaughter was the flower girl…

Miss M the Flower Girl for her uncle's wedding

With the processional about to begin, the Flower Girl’s other grandma is holding her, to help her know what to do about tossing flower petals…

Well…little Miss M mutinied on the flower petals, so her other grandma just quickly carried her down the aisle…lol

As they began to say their vows, raindrops fell but only for the briefest of showers…so the ceremony continued and they became Mr. and Mrs. to our great joy!

Getting married

After the congratulations, the photographer took the wedding party down the hill for pictures.

My daughter (C) with her husband (A) and their daughter (M)…a bit damp but little Miss M still wasn’t keen on flower petal duty amidst so many people.

We finally eeked a smile from her for a three generations photo…and you can see how my daughter is still drenched from the rain.

Then the photographer asked the family members to join her and the wedding party on top of the hill for photos.

Afterwards, my new husband took my picture against the hydrangea…my own hair completely destroyed by the rain despite all the pins and hairspray I used.

Wedding reception tables…there are tiny lights wrapped around the blue bottle to represent star gazing in the Shenandoah amidst fireflies…all shared memories of the wedded couple.

Unsure of dancing to the music, Miss M is finally looking her happy little self.

On the left, the Bride’s Cake, and on the right, the Groom’s Cake, which is a Texas tradition that all the Virginian’s were like…why two cakes? lol

Also, bluebonnet seeds on the right, for which my son artistically decorated the packages for souvenirs for the guests.

For our mother and son dance, my son chose a Granger Smith tune, Man Made, which really touched my heart:

All us boys wanna grow up
To make our mamas proud
Find that girl that lifts us up
When life gets us down
Behind any guy doing anything right
There’s a woman’s work at hand
If a man made anything, it’s ’cause
A woman made that man

The girl wearing the short black dress and flip flops in the photo was the photographer, a colleague of my son from work.

She was wonderful the entire time, and I can’t wait to see her photography.

Later that evening, my granddaughter fell asleep in my arms as we sat in a chair to watch all the dancers.

When the newlyweds walked down to their get away car, we followed with sparklers, in the dark.

Meanwhile my new hubby took MIss M. so I could follow the procession with my own sparkler.

Humorously, my son has told me that remembering our wedding anniversaries will be a cinch, since his and mine are the same date, different month.

Reflecting on all our recent weddings, my daughter’s husband laughingly exclaimed that he and his wife are the old wedded couple, since I eloped a few months ago!
