Creating Reception Centerpieces for my Son’s Barn Wedding

July 16, 2022

Amidst a busy year getting engaged, planning an elopement, packing, moving, unpacking, and hiring contractors for an old house, my son was also busy with packing and moving, along with wedding preparations of his own.

RUSTIC BARN VENUE

Shortly before my son and I moved out of our apartment, he (B) and his fiancee (S) took me to the barn she chose for their wedding venue!

I loved the rustic barn’s shabby chic decor, which drove the wedding preparation decisions.

A couple of weeks before their wedding, they asked me and friends from their church to help them create the reception centerpieces.

INSPIRATION

With great care, they planned the centerpieces with deep meaning that tell the story of their relationship.

While the navy blue is the groom’s color, the jute twinings represent S’s love of barns.

CREATING CENTERPIECES

Since the lacy jute ribbon did not tie around the neck of these bottles as they had hoped, I pulled out my floral tools.

Using floral wire into a pre-folded bow, we had a much easier time securing the lacey jute ribbon to the neck of the bottle.

Since that used up the ribbon sooner than hoped for, we experimented with various ways to use the extra twine.

After looking at the different options, S decided on her favorite variations on a theme of rustic decor.

While clear bottles were tied with navy blue ribbon, the blue bottles received variations of the twine bows.

CREATING PLACEMATS

Meanwhile, my son cut out the raffia placemats…

AUDITIONING FINAL LOOK

MEANING BEHIND THE LIGHTS

Into the small lantern, she placed a fake battery powered candle for safety reasons.

Then we admired the lights reflecting their love of star gazing amidst the fireflies.

SAFELY PACKING

After auditioning several ideas, S decided to make her final decision later.

Reusing the original shipping boxes, they were assured of an easy and safe delivery to the wedding venue.

GOT FLOWERS?

Then we talked about the flowers for the ceremony…stay tuned.
