After painting Trains Chugging through the Colorado Rockies in my son’s room, and painting Under the Sea in my kids’ bathroom, I turned my daughter’s room into a flower garden.
I used the Donna Dewberry painting technique to paint a huge tree with a swing (my daugher adores swings) with a pretty floral hat in the swing. Then I painted a garden fence around the bottom sections of the walls. Dewberry’s simple technique helps a non-artist like me enormously!
We purchased a limestone looking laminate countertop from Lowes for her desk. I wish I had gotten a close-up of the countertop because it truly looked like limestone! It was a snap to clean, which is a good thing considering she does a lot of craft projects here! It’s quite durable and nice looking!
Several of the bookcases were repainted to match the fencing. In fact one of them, from Hobby Lobby, looked like it was made of garden fencing.
The other bookcase had been picked up off the side of the road and refurnished and repainted a few times. This time I painted it green, then used the Donna Dewberry technique to paint floral heart wreaths onto the sides.
Together we hot glued brightly colored gerbera daisies to her bulletin board.
And from Hobby Lobby and other places I bought anything garden-ish I could find for the walls and shelves.
Although I don’t have a picture of the headboard of her bed, that is also from Hobby Lobby…and also looks like fencing that I painted in the same shade of green as the other fencing.
All the details about the quilt I sewed for her is at this link.
I even made a bed skirt with a dark purple background and a netting overlay. The bed skirt is a lavender floral print. I created a sheer overlay, where I sewed both selvaged edges to the seam, gathered to the top of the bed skirt. Inside I had slipped large colorful silk gerbera daisies from Hobby Lobby to pop against the purple bedskirt.
I also sewed curtains for her window to coordinate.
Since all this was before I had a blog, much less a digital camera, I didn’t take great pictures. But it certainly was a fun room!
