After numerous fun vacations exploring different parts of the country, I decided to reassess the agony of stuffing luggage into the van.
Easier Packing of the Van
Deciding to squish large duffel bags into the nooks and crannies of a stuffed van, the kids and I went shopping for fabric so I could customize duffel bags they’d enjoy using.
Shopping for Fabric
In the decorator portion of the fabric store are large widths of 54” fabric, perfect for my plan to quickly sew these duffel bags.
My daughter chose a pink floral, whereas my son chose a solid blue fabric which we painted to look like baseballs on a blue background.
Process
I cut off a strip triple the width that I wanted, from the unsalvaged end to create an over-the-shoulder strap. I folded the edges under, pressed, and stitched.
Then I folded the 54” wide fabric in half so that the wide part opens. I turned under the edges of the opening and stitched, then sewed the side seams.
Then I sewed Velcro into the opening and stitched the strap into the ends of the opening.
Done!
Epilogue
These were wonderful for our trip! Colorful, durable, roomy, easy to haul around, and most fabulous, they are easy to squish into nooks and crannies of the van! Tigger and the dollies especially enjoyed being transported in them!
We had an amazing time in the Rocky Mountains! Stay tuned!
