Trimming a Straw Hat with Sage Silk Ribbon and Pink Roses

June 10, 2015

As we were about to embark on a time-travel voyage to meet the French frigate l’Hermione, upon which Lafayette once sailed with important news from the King of France to General George Washington, I set about to trim a new hat for the grand occasion.

From my stash I pulled a straw hat that I purchased at TJ Max a few years ago.

Perusing my stash of ribbons and flowers, I chose a sage green silk ribbon and pink roses to embellish the hat.

Although this is for daily wear, I happily but unconsciously pulled from historic millinery techniques learned over the years for the creation of this style.

However, more difficulties than usual caused me to use the craft glue to adhere the flowers in place.

Then off to Yorktown on Sunday, then Mount Vernon on Tuesday, for the meeting with l’Hermione with my hat ensued!
