Historical Sewing and Time Travels
Although they were always on my daunting “I could never do that” list, I discovered they are much easier to sew than expected.
The dress drew positive attention at the Christmas party, where a guest asked me about the style, my sewing, and the rest of my historical sewing.
When I ran out of large enough pieces of fabric for the skirt pattern, I pieced remnants together, which is 18th century…and I learned is also 1952 accurate.
Encouraged by the 18th century and couture sewing, I ventured into sewing contemporary garments again. Thus, my new dress that reflects the 1950s circle skirts.
Frustrated with contemporary sewing patterns, I have found reverting to home seamstress couture aka 18th century techniques much easier!
Seeing the completed toile, my daughter asked if she could wear it for our upcoming Becoming History presentation to portray Christy Huddelston of Cutter Gap.
