How we made our Genesis Creation Flip Books

July 30, 2007

While studying creation last year, I thought the kids would enjoy doing a mixed media type art project, using odds and ends from their craft boxes.

Graduated Pages

We cut the pages for each day in graduating sizes. These are the pages from my son’s book. Days are numbered on the bottom of each page, inside of clouds.

Day 1 – Light

Day 1 – And God said, “Let there be light” Genesis 1: 3

Cut strips of white paper 2″ wide.

Color the top half black and leave the bottom half white.

Creation Book Day 1

Day 2 – Heavens and Water

Day 2 – And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.” Genesis 1: 6

Cut white paper 3″ wide.

Color bottom half dark blue and color top half lighter blue. Use cotton for clouds.

Creation Book Day 2

Day 3 – Dry Ground

Day 3 – And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let the dry ground appear.” Genesis 1:9 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” Genesis 1:11

Cut paper 4″ wide.

Draw pictures of trees and plants. Use cotton for clouds, green yarn for treetops, yellow yarn for ???

Creation Book Day 3

Day 4 – Sun, Stars, Moon

Day 4 – And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth. God made two great lights-the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.” Genesis 1:14-16

Cut black paper 5″ wide.

Cover the page with foam stars, yellow yarn for the sun, and white yarn for the moon.

Creation Book Day 4

Day 5 – Creatures in Sea and Sky

Day 5 – And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.” Genesis 1:20

Cut paper 7″ wide.

Color with portions of sky, land, and sea. Fill with fish in sea and birds in the sky and land. Yellow yarn for sun.  Green yarn for seaweed.  Fish stickers.

Creation Book Day 5

Day 6 – Land Animals, Adam and Eve

Day 6 – And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind”…Then God said, “Let us make man in our image…male and female…” Genesis 1:24, 27

Cut paper 9″ wide. Color with portions of sky, sea, and land. Fill with land animals, Adam and Eve, birds, fish, plants, sun. Yellow yarn for sun.  Green yarn for treetops.  Foam turtles and frogs. Fish sticker.

Creation Book Day 6

Day 7 – God blessed the day and made it holy

Day 7 – And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work of creating that He had done. Genesis 2:3

Then we bound the outside of the pages with scotch tape.
