Gorgeous Pippin Hill Farm Vineyards – Monticello Wine Trail

July 10, 2023

The scenery for this vineyard on the Monticello Wine Trail was everything I hoped for…stunning Blue Ridge Mountain, vineyards, and flowers in an elegant rustic setting!

TASTING ROOM WITH APPETIZERS

Instead of feeling cramped, the Tasting Room was an airy and spacious dining area that had lots of windows to enjoy the lovely views.

We each chose a glass of wine and a few appetizers to share, which tasted amazing!

My favorite was a pasta and fresh green bean dish with cheese!

AWARD WINNING WINES

Despite opening as recently as 2011, they have won a ton of awards.

Handily, I took one of the cards (pictured above) which listed the most recent winners, including the Governor’s Award.

SCENERY

After our refreshment, we enjoyed the scenery from the Veranda, the gardens, and the various seating areas about the property.

APIARY

These lovely wild flowers attract the bees that produce honey at their property’s apiary.

FAMILY BUSINESS

Owned by a husband and wife, the most I could find of their history is that they opened in 2011.

Going into extensive detail about what makes their winery special, they wrote: “Terroir” in French winemaking terminology means the holistic interface of environment and earth. In other words, the elements and conditions in which wine is produced (elevation, sunlight, soil, topography, water, climate). Pippin Hill’s ideal terroir features a stable foundation of granitic pre-Cambrian formation, a deep groundwater aquifer and soils from two ancient and four alluvial fans.

They also wrote how thrilled they are to be part of the Thomas Jefferson dream of successfully producing world-class wines in Virginia, the birthplace of American wine.

Providing a variety of experiences, their elite event seems to be a tour of their vineyards, which they make available with tastings.
