Well, I’ve done enough teasing…now that I’m moving, I should share a few of my favorite things…
WELCOME
One of the first things I bought for the apartment was this welcoming French Country wall art from Hobby Lobby.
SHOWER CURTAIN
Since my bathroom granite countertop is mostly beige with hints of soft aqua blue, I bought this French Country shower curtain at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
For storage I bought an étagère from Bed, Bath, and Beyond, for over the toilet, on top of which I put a glass light house and a positive wall art saying.
Next to that was a wall vase from which draped sweet lilac flowers, both from Hobby Lobby.
BALCONY GARDEN
When spring arrived in 2020, I created a balcony garden with flowers from the Lake Ridge Nursery.
CURTAINS
At Hobby Lobby, I bought this lovely French Country fabric to sew some sheer curtains for the balcony doorway near the couch, that hung by brass hooks which looked really nice, softening the harshness of the morning sun while enjoying the private woodsy view.
That was really interesting, laying the fabric on the hardwood floor to measure and cut, pin seams, etc.
PATIO LIGHTING
In the spring of 2021, I added patio lighting to the balcony.
Since it was so lovely to view from indoors, I often pulled the curtains aside at night to better enjoy the lights.
CURIO CABINET
Inside the curio cabinet I displayed my 18th century embroided pocket, while to the left is a peak at the quilts laying on my baker’s rack.
SEWING ROOM ORGANIZATION
My quilting fabric scraps are stored here, by color, so they are easy to find.
CUTTING TABLE
For a cutting table, I bought two small bookcases from Hobby Lobby, and a gorgeous butcher block table top from Wayfair, which my son screwed together.
It’s at the perfect height, like a kitchen island, for cutting out small pieces of fabric and quilt blocks, while the shelves hold my notions and works in progress.
18TH CENTURY
On the other side of the room is an étagère for my 18th century fabric, patterns, notes, hats, etc.
Next to that is my dress form with an 18th century gown.
Here is my French Country chair to work at a small table, or even at the larger sewing table underneath the picture window overlooking the woods.
MORE FABRIC
Next to that table and my sewing table is this étagère for 19th to early 20th century fabric and patterns (bottom row), 1920s to 1950s fabric and patterns (next row up), tote bag and window treatment patterns and fabrics (next row up), and finally present day patterns and fabrics.
PACKING FOR A MOVE
Since my new lease proposal blew off the roof, it was time to pack and find a new place to live…hence these photos to help me remember how I organized everything.
Inside my credenza I kept my bedding for the couch, where I slept, so my bedroom could be a devoted sewing room.
Behind the blue vase some of the balcony curtain I sewed can be seen.
More of the curtain behind the credenza and lanterns…
My favorite HGTV show, all the beachy ones!
EPILOGUE MARCH
More of the curtain that I sewed…
Quilts sandwiches safely stored in opaque boxes…
More of the cutting table can be seen here…
Most of the sewing I’ve done in this apartment has been for quilting, since that was easiest to manage in a small apartment.
Also, a quicker start for a home-based business, and lots of practice for 18th century hand stitching…until I got distracted by my guy! 😉
Starting a whole new life next week. Stay tuned!
