When the house was purchased, the powder room was quite dark.
FRENCH COLONY BEHR MARQUEE WALLS
The first project I did in here was paint the grey walls with French Colony Behr Marquee one coat coverage.
That paint was so creamy and thick it laid on easily, making my job easy.
Replacing the walnut mirror that came with the bathroom, my goal was to lighten that up…but I dragged my feet on that project too.
However I did start collecting fun beachy decor items that I knew my granddaughter would like.
I’m glad I did, because Hobby Lobby’s decor isn’t as cute or French Country as it used to be.
They used to be my one stop decor shop, but no more. =(
AVOIDED PAINTING THE WALNUT VANITY FOR THREE YEARS
Although I wanted to paint the walnut cabinet white, I hesitated for the next three years because I knew that meant stripping and sanding and priming…unless I tried a chalk paint…but I wasn’t 100% impressed with the ones I had used.
Then I learned of a much easier way, thanks to Heirloom Traditions All-in-One Paint which is water based, requiring no sanding, priming, or sealing.
A few weeks ago I used half a quart of the cashmere paint to paint the dark orangy-red front door which is made of steel.
Without the agony of traditional painting, I easily conquered the door and it looks great!
That project was so easy, I couldn’t wait to paint the walnut vanity white.
PREPPING
Laying out my tarp, I removed the handles from the doors, although I left the doors hinged to the cabinet while painting.
After using a deglossing wipe to remove dust, etc, I started painting.
QUICK DRYING
Like the front door, it took a few coats to cover the dark surface, but thankfully the paint quickly dries.
Every hour I applied another coat until the cabinet looked as I had hoped.
BEACHY BATHROOM
Meanwhile I had purchased a new mirror that arrived about the time I had finished painting the vanity.
When I asked my granddaughter if she likes the bathroom she exclaimed: Yes, I do!
I thought so, because she loves to run to get the little stool in the corner to take to the bathroom to wash her hands, I think just to wash her hands because I never see her do that at her house! 😉
MORE PAINT LEFT OVER
After using a quart of Cashmere Heirloom Traditions All-in-One Paint for the front door and bathroom vanity, I still had enough left over for a few small kitchen projects. Stay tuned!
