A friend lent an extra copy of her CD of The Phonics of Drawing after I mentioned how impressed I was from her kids’ experiences on her blog posts.
Using charcoal to practice different shapes, with our hands held in a certain way, taught us best tips for this using this new (to us) medium.
Learning about perspective reminded us of our Renaissance studies about Leonardo da Vinci last year.
Then we learned about light and shadow while drawing teddy bears…
My son’s teddy bear light and shadow sketch is in the blog post header.
After spending our summer trying out the first lessons, I am even more impressed.
Even though my son is an artist, my daughter and I are not, so we were elated that our pictures are at least recognizable!
