This year we have hung on to God through lots of new experiences, but He has given us lovely respites during Independence Day and again during Christmas.
Two fireworks shows, three picnics, games galore, and handcranking homemade ice cream with a recipe from Mount Vernon for a weeklong Independence Day.
As my kids’ lives became ever busier with work and college, they were glad to settle with old family traditions for Independence Day.
Last summer while window shopping in the historic area looking for a great lunch spot, the Culpeper Cheese Company reined us in!
When my kids found an abandoned bird’s nest in one of the trees, they insisted that was the tree for us, just like Mary Ellen Walton’s in The Homecoming.
Last year when I was at my kids’ Chick-fil-A Christmas party, I determined that I would make my first Buche de Noel for this year’s party!
Laying a tarp on top of the deck, we could hand crank ice cream below while listening to the rain drops falling around us.
For the remainder of the week, we’ll likely play lots of games by day and watch Christmas/New Year’s Eve combo movies each night…can’t get enough of it. 😉
Although we are more used to BBQing and hand-cranking ice cream in 100 degree sunny heat in Texas than this drenched 70 degree novelty, we conquered both!
