Before we got married and I moved in here, Mr. Bachelor and I painted the basement yellow, because it looked like this when he first purchased it.
REMOVE THE VENTS
Here you can see two unneedful vents in the left wall of the desk nook, one above and one below.
Since the utility room’s slatted doors provide venting, the extra vents are overkill.
Since the above photo, we painted the walls yellow and had the fireplace fixed,
The photo below was taken the day the giant worktable arrived, with all my stuff waiting to go into the new worktable or shelving we had also installed.
TRIM THE BEADBOARD AND INSTALL OVERHEAD LIGHT
However the beadboard in that nook, installed after Mr. Bachelor first moved in, still wasn’t finished off, nor was there any lighting.
BUILD FLOATING TABLE TOP
Someday I dreamed of a floating table top for my sewing machine in there, with finished beadboard and lighting.
SEWING ON THE HIGH TABLE
Meanwhile I found a home for all that stuff in all the new storage of the sewing room, to put the sewing machine on top.
While carefully sitting on my tall stool, I sewed a quilt between Christmas and New Years…
NEW WORKTABLE
And here is my quilt work spread out when Larry arrived to talk about the next projects: the basement powder bath, the laundry room, and the kitchen shelving.
I also asked Larry to finish off the sewing nook.
SEWING ROOM BECAME STORAGE
Meanwhile my sewing filled up with all the stuff we moved out for multiple renovations at the same time…
Then mystery dust blew through the old HVAC, causing me a ton of dusting and sneezing for weeks.
MAKING PROGRESS
Although the floating desktop was beautifully installed, the lighting they bought never made it up into the ceiling because of trying to coordinate the HVAC guys first.
They thought they’d have to run stuff through that ceiling with might mess up the work of Larry’s team, so one plan at a time.
After the HVAC install, the inspector said the same the HVAC company told me: get rid of the two vents in my nook, since they are not needed. The slatted utility doors properly do the venting.
Elated to have these agree with my hopeful desire, I contacted Larry, but between our busy schedules, they didn’t return until autumn.
TA DA!
Once they arrived, they completed my sewing nook so it’s a beautiful cozy space…no longer with those icky vents into the utility room.
Since this floating tabletop fills the nook, my fabric won’t fall to the ground as I sew.
I also like how the entire floor space underneath is free of objects.
They drilled a hole in the far right corner for my sewing machine cord to handily reach down to the outlet.
NEW LIGHTING OVER BIG WORKTABLE
AND they installed overhead lighting over the big worktable! (see header photo)
It has a bit of a glare when I do photography so we are trying out different light bulbs.
