While my husband and I were busily packing for our long planned anniversary trip to the Outer Banks (my first time there!), I received a text from my son (B), saying that his wife’s (S) water broke.
Oh no! She’s four weeks away from her due date.
Well, this baby’s daddy was six weeks early…

Three months later, they revealed that it’s a girl!
BABY SHOWER
Five weeks before the due date, we had the baby shower…
which the little cousin, little Miss M (my daughter’s daughter) thoroughly enjoyed!
Adoring her aunt and uncle…
…she happily helped with all the gifts.
FOUR WEEKS EARLY
A week later I received a text from my B, that S’s water broke.
Oh, no! Four weeks early!
Soon after they were admitted and settled at their care center in Loudon County, labor began.
Driving out to visit them, it was amazing seeing all the new technology and smart ideas that never existed in my day.
Available in the room for her comfort during labor was a huge rubber ball to lean her belly against to help manage pain, then use of a whirlpool tub.
They happily explained that all the equipment in that corner would enable the baby, though a preemie, to stay with them in this room, instead of being whisked away like my son was…unless there were serious complications.
Leaving that evening as her labor pains worsened, I went home to wait for news.
Very early the next morning, on Mother’s Day, my newest granddaughter safely arrived.
Her cousin, my first granddaughter, was born on Independence Day.
My kids seem to like holiday deliveries! 😉
After my hubby and I packed up the car, we drove an hour west to visit them.
At my son’s encouragement, the day before, we predicted birth weight, and I came the closest.
Born four weeks early, Little Miss E was born 4 pounds 15 ounces, which is two ounces heavier than her daddy, a preemie born six weeks early.
And then I had to tear myself away to go to the Outer Banks.
Since Little Miss E was a preemie, they will need to stay a little longer than planned.
Although there are a couple of items of concern, overall she is doing well and expected to go home soon.
When I return, I’ll stay at their place to help hold the little sweetheart.
