Painting sunshine on my daughter’s drab lavender grey walls

May 13, 2009

Fifteen days after securing the keys from the real estate agent, moving in to the house, unpacking moving boxes, painting the pink mocha basement, visiting Colonial Williamsburg for a day, and painting my son’s bedroom, it was time to brighten the pale grey walls in my daughter’s bedroom.

Missing her old garden mural

Like her brother, she wanted her new bedroom to look just like her old bedroom.

I can’t blame her, because the garden themed mural I painted was fun!

However, she’s getting older, so will most likely want something different around the corner, and I’m rather swamped with keeping up with homeschooling and getting this fixer upper in order.

Besides, I had a feeling we needed to keep our walls ready to sell…

Seeking a simpler fun style

So I suggested we look for simpler fun styles that appeal to her.

With that in mind, I painted the creamy yellow paint on her walls, which was the base for her old room, anyway.

When I painted the creamy yellow on her walls, I was surprised to suddenly see the lavender hues in the pale grey.

After the paint dried, we placed her furniture in different positions, looking for the best arrangement with all the different nooks an crannies.

Auditioning fabric for a window treatment

The room came with the white curtains and silver curtain rod with blue balls on the ends, neither of which my daughter likes.

Knowing that purple is her favorite color, I pulled out some fun purple fabric from my stash, a remnant from the Regency gown I sewed for her the year before.

This purple fabric is sheer with lots of sparklies, which looks pretty good in the window!

Meanwhile we auditioned this length of fabric to consider for a table cloth for a particle board table, or even as a window treatment.

This is one of the nooks that leads to her large double door clothes closet.

The door leading out to the landing is the open door in the far right of the photo.

There are still plenty of her colorful pictures to hang to decorate the walls.
