Perfect for the dialectic years, my kids got to use some logical skills to make connections important to their present day.
One of the most fascinating topics we read was of how they were funded by a joint-stock company, just like the Jamestown Colony.
Unfortunately they were established as a socialistic society…that failed. (As did Jamestown’s.)
The remedy for both Plymouth and Jamestown…capitalism!
I led our Socratic Discussions in such a way as to help the kids make the connection that socialism doesn’t work any better in the past than it does now.
Likewise capitalism works just as well then as it does now! What an important economic lesson for today.
