When dressing for a Hawaiian themed bridal shower for my son’s fiancee, I dug through my carefully packed moving boxes for some vintage attire I had sewn with the perfect fabric for the occasion.
Yes, I’m still unpacking at our fixer upper which I gained after eloping last spring.
In the process of helping a friend with his fixer upper house, which hardly has any closets, and drips, and…etc, etc, etc…we fell in love, eloped, and now are knee deep in massive home repairs…which includes a lot of work in my future sewing room with a fireplace that spews excessively cold air in the winter.
Anyway…
A few years ago I sewed some outfits with the Aloha fabrics from Gertie’s 1950s reproduction fabric line that sold at JoAnn a several years ago.
With the 1950s styled red and orange hibiscus florals set against aqua, I sewed a 1953 sundress, style A.
Pulling it out, I realized I hadn’t finished positioning of the shoulder straps, and the day was a wee bit chilly, so I paired the dress with a short bolero jacket from a 1940’s set I had sewn with the same fabric, using a Wearing History pattern.
Comprised of a nice, soft cotton, the fabric was easy to work with and comfortable to wear.
While everyone at the shower was given a lei to wear and a flower for their hair, my granddaughter was adorably swimming with all the leftover leis.
Uncertain of all the people, she soon became her active self when she started playing with all the balloons while her future aunt opened her presents.
Upon returning home, my husband took pictures of me on our deck…which sadly needs a lot of work.
With a sunken patio that floods when it rains, busted floor boards, nails poking out…the deck has been put on the back burner while I seek out a contractor to help us.
Meanwhile we’ve been chipping away at other needful projects: better lighting, removing junk, water leaks, etc.
However, I LOVE that million dollar view of the woods behind the house!
Due to this fixer upper of an old house, I’ve had little time for sewing…but I still have a deep interest in returning to my historical sewing.
And…my husband keeps promising a trip to San Diego to visit his mom…so I’m planning on finishing the fitting of this outfit for a fun photo shoot!
So this was fun to have a little opportunity to wear one of my outfits from my historical wardrobe.
