Historical Sewing and Time Travels
After moving into my new apartment nearly two months ago, I quickly unpacked and organized a sewing space in my bedroom…since my son is in the other bedroom.
Thinking the fabric would pair well with my pale pink embroidered capri pants, I imagined its cuteness on journeys out and about with vintage flair.
Since I wanted to use one of my favorite fabrics for something I could wear on any day, I chose a remnant I’ve always loved to practice my couture sewing.
Although they were always on my daunting “I could never do that” list, I discovered they are much easier to sew than expected.
While auditioning the border fabric from my stash, I decided to create patriotic Ohio Star cornerstones to offset the waving bargello flag.
My son proclaims: Mom, you’re just not a gadget gal!
He’s right! I don’t want to fiddle with things. Instead, I want to accomplish things!
The repairman said that the alignment is off in my machine, requiring the base to be replaced, costing more than the current value of the machine.
Circumspect when the movers carried a rather squished moving box into the door of our new house, I grimaced when I saw that it was labeled: sewing machine.
After hearing of my purchase, my Mom pointed to her sewing machine that was once her mom’s…a Pfaff from the 1950s that her aunt’s sister sold to my grandmother.
