Philip Vickers Fithian wrote in his journal: Virginians must dance or they will die. Thus, Virginians found a legal loophole around the “no frivolity” mandate.
As many visitors left during the anthem’s opening, I boldly put my hand on my heart and sung the anthem, hoping that I wouldn’t get terribly off key.
Standing near reserved seating for special guests, we saw many French-American alliance pins, Lafayette scarves, and French- American alliance sashes.
Not seeing Johnny Tremain, I imagined him walking through the streets, looking for a job after he injured his hand, and running errands for the Sons of Liberty.
While prepping to paint the Lafayette color in the our new Virginia house, I had an idea.
Why not name the rooms after Lafayette and his American friends?
My happy first grade memories recall reciting the pledge and singing a patriotic anthem while holding the American flag high at the beginning of the school day.
