18th Century Virginia Musings
After visiting Lafayette’s frigate, l’Hermione, in Yorktown, we took a quick jaunt to Colonial Williamsburg to visit the milliner! Why not?
Numerous trades at Colonial Williamsburg recreated the tent, including the weaver who wove the fabric the tailors sewed.
After heartily singing various tunes to the accompaniment of musicians, the Hessians gathered everyone for a Virginia Reel.
Listening to the milliner was great fun, as she wove a fascinating tour of fashionable delights in such a fun way that exceeded any that I recall!
We were certainly tempted to place an order with the milliner with these spring-like hats that looked quite fashionably fun to wear.
While my son spent several minutes trying to get the perfect picture of the gorgeous cardinal, Thomas Jefferson joined us in bird watching!
Despite my first costume attempt fail, I absolutely did have fun being out and about with all our skirts swirling and swishing through the historic area.
Now that I’m caught up, at the present, with sewing historically accurate costumes for my kids, I wanted to do some research for me.
How long does it take to put on a costume? F-o-r-e-v-e-r when your son has a cravat!
He’s now shortened his time to tying the cravat to a mere 5 minutes!
The kids and I were captured by the Redcoats and they seemed to be targeting me!
We also attended dragoon bootcamp to spy for the Continental Army.
