As we stood across the street from Independence Hall a couple of years ago, I pointed to the name of the building.
At least I found our dinner spot for the evening, at the Red Owl Tavern, on this one day tour, but turns out his daughter had reservations for us across town, so off we went.
A PROMISE MADE
My hubby told me he’d bring me back to stay at Hotel Monaco at the Lafayette Building…which he has tried to make happen numerous times but numerous other house renovations pop up.
Recently, when I mentioned that Mark Schneider would be portraying Lafayette on his 1824 Grand Tour of Philadelphia, my hubby made arrangements to stay at this hotel, which is conveniently located across the street from Independence Hall, where the reenactment was to be staged.
OUR ROOM
Arriving at our room…
A variety of worldwide styles modernized as huge prints met us as we entered the room, with a nod to the 18th century…
The wallpaper inside the closet…
ELEVATOR
At our elevator waiting to go downstairs…
A fantastical crystal chandelier of a ship outside the elevators on the first floor!
LOBBY
Within the lobby was the same worldwide influence with a nod to the 18th century, this time with a dash of art deco, as seen in this mirrored door frame…
Wallpaper similar to that found in grand homes in the 18th century…
Near the receptionist’s desk are two prints. The one on top is Lafayette, and below is John Quincy Adams.
Lafayette…
View of the Second Bank of the United States outside the lobby window…
Lafayette’s image on the curtain pullback…
Then out those doors for a delicious dinner at the rustic-modern Red Owl Tavern!
OUTDOORS
We walked outdoors to tour the nearby historic buildings.
