Painting a Colorful Under the Sea Bathroom for my Kids

July 18, 2007

Not long after painting the train mural in my son’s room, I painted an Under the Sea mural for my kids’ bathroom inspired by our past vacations at South Padre Island.

Watching Matt Fox and Shari Hiller paint murals on Room by Room of HGTV set me on a mural journey.

These sea creatures were a bit more challenging than the Rockies but using the One Stroke method from Donna Dewberry (whom I had seen on PBS) was a big help!

Driving the colors and arrangement for my mural was this perfect shower curtain that the kids and I liked a lot!

Since I’m not that artistic, my renderings were much simpler, but still recognizable…and fun!

The resulting mural was a hit! My kids loved this room so much since it was such a happy place to be!

Cute fish all over the walls in various colors!

And I found fish netting to use as a sort of window treatment to hold some of the sea shells they have collected over the years at sea shell shops.

Then of course it was too easy to find a Sea themed toothbrush holder.

I bought colorful bath towels in their favorite colors, turquoise blue for my son and magenta pink for my daughter, so they could tell which belonged to whom.

Too fun!
