When my kids invited me to Mount Vernon for Mother’s Day, I was excited to introduce my almost three year old granddaughter to the 18th century for the first time!
After walking through the Texas Gate entrance to obtain tickets and a tour time for the mansion, I introduced little Miss M to the Washington family!
GARDENS
While walking to the gardens, I carried little Miss M in my arms, while explaining all the important things about George Washington as she listened carefully to every bit.
It’s amazing the stuff she picks up!
While doing that, her Daddy started asking me tons of history questions, after which we joined the others to enjoy the gardens.
Although the photo is fuzzy, I was glad to capture a snap of some historical attire!
I love this fleur-de-lis parterre nod to Lafayette and the French American Alliance.
After her aunt and uncle helped her run around the sixteen sided barn like the horses do when they thresh the wheat, Miss M led the way to the forest path, hopping and skipping!
I kept imagining her following the footsteps of the Custis children and grandchildren who once lived and played here.
After visiting the red devon…
…she learned all about ha-ha walls…
…from her uncle…
It was such a beautiful day!
