After pulling myself away from my newest granddaughter, we drove down to the Outer Banks, my first time to go further south in Virginia, than Newport News.
CROSSING HAMPTON ROADS
Wow! Hampton Roads is massive, as my three year old granddaughter would say!
Somewhere out there, a Civil War naval battle was fought between the ironclads, Monitor and Merrimac.
CURRITUCK BEACH
Arriving at night, I couldn’t wait to see the beach the next morning!
Impressively clean beach with lots of seashells intact for fun collecting…
Oh, my…ghost crabs scurried everywhere in plain sight!
Although I had heard that they are nocturnal and aloof, these were quite friendly.
BEACH HOUSES
I drooled over the beach houses…which one would I like to buy?
GHOST CRAB HOUSE TOUR
Then a ghost crab caught my attention, sitting near me until I moved, then she scurried a couple of inches as though she wanted to take me somewhere, so I followed her to her home, which you can see in this video.
LACY WAVES
WWII PLANE
We saw a Douglas C47 Skytrain from WWII days flying overhead.
Another ghost crab came to greet me…
LIGHTHOUSE
After walking from this spot up to the Corolla Horses then back, while collecting sea shells, we had spent all morning on the beach and walked three miles!
This boardwalk takes us to our lodging, nestled between the beach and the Curriuck Lighthouse.
Here’s a panormic video of the sites from this spot…
Well, we never planned what we’ll do this week, hoping for a down day to sit on the beach and read a book.
We are so exhausted from all the negotiations to have our house renovated, then keeping up with multiple projects, that we decided to simply take this trip one moment at a time.
Stay tuned!
