Blue rococo trim and green bow for my 18th century hat

March 22, 2011

One of my first stops in Colonial Williamsburg last Friday, was a quick shopping trip to two of my favorite shops.

At the Mary Dickenson shop I secured a hat blank, then we went to Tarpley’s so I could purchase a hat pin!

That night in the hotel room, I trimmed this hat based on ideas gleaned from a hat trimming class I took with the Costume Design Center last year.

In fact, the lovely rococo trim in blue and green was from the class, while the green ribbon was separately purchased.

This was such a cute and simple little hat to whip up, which is quite historically accurate.

It was my favorite part of my costume, and I even received a few compliments on it.

Nevertheless, I feel it needs a little more, so I plan to retrim the hat, another period accurate idea, so stay tuned for that.

For the rest of my attire that day, I had my completed shift, but the sleeves were too long, annoyingly dragging out of my jacket sleeves.

For the jacket, I used my pattern that the Costume Design Center fitted to me last year, however I didn’t choose the best print, so it looked totally off.

Thus, I am now searching on-line for a proper 18th century print that I like.

The petticoat and pockets were straight forward simplicity, so now my goal is to further my proper attire with more proper fabrics for a better look.

Stay tuned!
