Luxery Retreat at Texas Hill Country Regency Resort

July 13, 2007

Staying overnight at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, I began dreaming…

Big Texas Hill Country Destination Resort

Everything about it was stunningly huge! Check out the entry to the hotel at this link!

In 1993 it opened to become the first destination resort in Texas, and America’s first resort to revolve around the living history that honors the family who had once lived on the land.

Even though it’s not far from downtown San Antonio, the resort easily exudes the iconic Hill Country feel.

Entry is through 300 acres of property, which is primarily a golf course with walking trails.

Formerly the 1887 Rogers Ranch

In 1887 it was the 2,777 acre Rogers Ranch.

By 1990 the name had changed to the Rogers-Wiseman Ranch, which sold to developers to create a unique Texan resort.

Throughout the hallways of the hotel is the photography of the ranch in older times, with family snapshots of those who lived on the land.

The 99 cattle brand is still seen on the property, and even used “on jars of house-made fire roasted salsa.”

French Hill Country Style

Holding on to its historic roots, the property imbues a Texan hill country feel with a bit of French flair: iconic limestone buildings with blue-grey shutters surrounded by gardens.

Ranch elements are found throughout the property from windmills to water towers.

Five Acre Water Park

Located near the hotel is an expansive 5-acre water park that features everything from tubing, to jacuzzis, to waterfalls, to swimming pools under Spanish Oaks.

Elegant Dining

Elegant dining under lightly lit antler chandeliers in the evening to casual dining for a grand breakfast buffet included some of the best meals I’ve ever enjoyed.

The Antler’s Lodge, especially, includes fine dining around meat indicative to western flavors such as bison and quail.

A touch of French Country added a class of elegance to the fun Texas Hill Country antlers, leather, and rustic iron cattle brands.

I began to dream of my own house with similar style, but on a smaller scale. (Stay tuned for that story!)
