Remediating our Lack of Townhouse Storage

September 27, 2024

Still dealing with piles of stuff awaiting a closet that functioned, we hired Larry to fix that problem.

POCKET DOOR

Originally this was the linen closet in the stairwell between the third and fourth floors.

Since it had a bifold door, when it opened it still blocked half the space for access.

Lugging linens in and out was a pain.

Larry’s team installed a pocket door, which makes access so much easier.

No longer needed for linens (more on that in a bit), this closet will store all the cleaners and paper supplies.

NEW LINEN CLOSET

This used to be a coat closet on the fifth floor, the loft in the master suite.

My hubby had a host of suits in here he no longer needed for work, so he finally purged them, and relocated the few he kept to his new closet.

That freed this space to become the official linen closet!

Larry’s team removed the old rod and shelf above, replacing them with several shelves.

They also removed the old tie racks off the inside of the door, that my hubby never used, which we’ll have to repair.

NEW MASTER CLOSET

Original to this house, was this closet space in the master suite full of low rods and upper cubbies, which never made sense.

To save money on building shelves, Larry’s team moved my hubby’s dresser to here, then installed new rods and shelves as per his personalize design.

On the top shelf he keeps his shoes.

He’s very happy with it now.

LOFT CABINETS

To maximize storage in the loft, this side got new cabinets that slid right in to the space.

Meanwhile I’ve inherited the loft, which my hubby always abhored but I loved!

Stay tuned for 18th century draping and stitching up here!

That table top was made by my son from my design when we were at the apartment.

I love it too much to get rid of.

Since the roof line slopes in this corner, the cabinets only went so far.

That’s not a problem with me, because it makes a cozy lighting nook that reflects light.

Now to do a lot of sorting of all the piles to put things away in their new homes!

As a result of improving four different inefficient areas of the house, we’ve significantly improved our storage in this townhouse.
