Our Unexpected National Treasure Date Night in Alexandria

August 31, 2024

PRELUDE

If a movie were ever to be made of my husband’s life, Nicolas Cage should portray him.

Besides, with our various interests combined, wouldn’t we make a great team? 😉

When I first mentioned that to W, he laughingly said he’s heard that before.

In fact, a young waitress at a restaurant we often visit thinks so too.

Quickly learning our favorites, she quickly became our favorite waitress.

On one visit, she hesitated a bit before asking if anyone ever told him he looked like Nicolas Cage.

The interaction was so cute and sweet, we’ve chuckled about it often.

She possibly thought that for a while she WAS serving Nicolas Cage!

JOE THEISMANN RESTAURANT

On this night I asked my favorite Nicolas Cage look-alike if we could enjoy dinner at Joe Theismann’s Restaurant in Alexandria, which has long been a goal of mine.

Fun atmosphere, great service, amazing food! When can we return?

GEORGE WASHINGTON MASONIC NATIONAL MEMORIAL

As we left I stopped to admire the view of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial…which I often see fly-by while driving through the area.

I’ll never forget my first time seeing it, while crossing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge when we moved to Virginia from Texas in 2009.

While house hunting, we stayed with friends in Maryland, so we frequently drove across the bridge to meet our real estate agent in Virginia to tour prospective homes.

I kept wondering what that tall structure was, so looked it up online.

While admiring its beauty with the purple lights, W suggested that we walk over to it. So we did!

Glimpsing it through the trees, W wanted to walk through the grass to get there.

What!?! And look like spies? We’d better take the sidewalk!

Wow! So gorgeous in the night!

While leaving, W again suggested cutting through the grass, which I guiltily did.

To lighten my mood, I joked: You look like Nicolas Cage. Someone might mistake us for that couple in National Treasure.

They’ll accuse us of stealing the Declaration of Independence or something!

Laughing, we watched the movie when we returned home!

NATIONAL TREASURE SHOT AT THE MEMORIAL

After doing a bit of research, I learned that Nicolas Cage was shot for a scene in the memorial, for National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

Apparently there is a stage inside the memorial that served as a lecture hall.

This is on our list of places to tour, so we can see the inside!
