Trimming a Black and White Hat in Polka Dots and Gingham

April 27, 2024

Recently at TJ Maxx, I found this great black and white hat to round out my wardrobe.

While waiting to leave for our big trip to Lynchburg, in the height of Virginia springtime, I realized I had enough time to trim a hat!

As I perused my assortments, I decided to use polka dots and gingham to trim my hat, embellished with a daisy.

Choosing the gingham for the main sashing, I cut an appropriate length to allow for wrapping around the base of the crown, which I tied off into a bow.

At strategic points, I pinched the gingham which I secured with thread at the base of the crown.

Tying a length of polka dot ribbon into a bow, I secured that to the gingham with my needle and thread.

After that, I sewed my daisy onto the bows and I was ready to go!

We have a great trip planned in Lynchburg, to visit Lafayette and the sites from one of my favorite books, A Severe Mercy. Stay tuned!
