Seasons of Life after one year in Lake Ridge

November 30, 2020

After owning gorgeous homes in Texas and Virginia, apartment life isn’t what it used to be, however here are a few pictures of some of the best parts.

WINTER

Looking into the woods from my glass door/balcony, I love the view throughout the seasons, especially while watching the snow fall.

SPRING

Full moons are easily viewed from my balcony, like this Pink Moon in April, named for the pink creeping phlox that blooms at this time of year.

In May, I joined a friend in Burke at the VRE station to see the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels flyover.

What beautiful blue skies for this unique sight!

A few days later, a friend and I drove to Westridge that has this gorgeous HOA pond and swimming area.

Later that month, my son and I hiked a one-mile trail behind the apartment that takes us to the Occoquan River, which I didn’t realize was so near.

Virginia smells amazing in May because of all the honeysuckle blooming.

Alas, no more grilling at the apartment, but my son and I are having fun creating dishes together.

He’s in charge of buying groceries, after I text a list to him, and he always brings home something new and interest to experiment with.

For Memorial Day, all my kids and granddaughter were there and the Texas-styled potato salad helped us feel as though we were eating BBQ.

SUMMER

Although I’m not a fish person, I told my son to go ahead and pick up some good looking tuna so I could try a fancy Tuna Nicoise recipe, which was a hit.

Double-yoked eggs are fun to find…

…and make great egg tacos for a quick dinner, which always needs “grilled” flour tortillas with butter.

AUTUMN

At the beginning of autumn, my son enjoyed a picnic while sightseeing, for which I made muffalettas from scratch.

For my birthday, all my kids and granddaughter were there, and my son surprised me with this steak and lobster dinner he made!

A week later we celebrated my son’s birthday by horseback riding at Fort Valley Ranch…

…then hiking the nearby Kennedy Peak Loop trail, which had amazing views.

The terrain is excessively rocky, so I let my son go ahead to see the top which he said was amazing.

Love walking through these autumnal leaves every day.

For Thanksgiving, we were again all together, and grateful for each other and that we were all safe.
