Petticoated Dress in Blues and Pinks for Baby Photos

November 4, 2020

When my daughter wanted a fancy dress for the baby to wear for her first official photo shoot, I found this adorable pale pink petticoated dress with sheer navy blue overlay, navy blue lace bodice, and giant pale pink bow…lacy baby socks…and a big pink flower bow embellished with pearls in the center.

PETTICOAT ANALYSIS

Pulling away the layers of the petticoats, I gleaned ideas for sewing better petticoat’s for my 1950s dresses.

While the outermost sheer layer was navy blue, the next seems to be pale pink (I forget now and I left the dress with my daughter), though both of which are edged in navy blue thread.

The next layer of petticoat is silk tafetta in pale pink.

Underneath that is a layer of pale pink silk taffeta…

Finally, pale pink silk taffeta panties for over the diaper to match.

MY BABY BLANKET

Using a special occasion blanket that was mine and then my daughter’s as a baby, I laid it down in the grass for the baby to lay upon for the photo shoot.

PHOTO SHOOT

Thankfully the autumnal day was comfortably warm, dry, and sunny.

While my son took photos with his professional camera, I took photos with my camera.

With her uncle and mommy…

That moment I took a picture of my three favorite people: my son taking pictures of his sister with her new baby

For the occasion, my daughter wore a blouse I sewed for her a few years ago.

Afterwards she was quite tuckered out from the afternoon, which is most likely because she cried while having the dress put on, and then later changing into a onesie.

While the baby isn’t much of a fan in changing clothes for photo shoots, her mommy used to love doing that, even at this young age.
