Chapeau Bras Inspiration: Costume Design Center Open House

October 23, 2011

After the Napoleon program we hurried over to the CW CDC for their annual open house.

It was great walking in and seeing all the instructors from the sewing classes I took last year.

Many of them commented, “We’ve never seen you in costume before!”

I asked about my stripes and they said I got the chevrons right!

When they asked about my current projects, I picked their brains on all the ideas I had!

Someone said there weren’t too many things on display that would be new to me.

That’s okay, because I’ve not yet mastered any of my previous projects and inspirations.

Some of the new inspirations I’ve not yet had time to analyze is this gorgeous gown!

This is the hat that inspired my gown…

Since I’m always traveling from Northern Virginia to Colonial Williamsburg, I should have a riding habit, especially in the winter to keep me warm.

Wouldn’t this hat be fun to pair with it?

Lafayette’s epaulettes looked a bit different from the ones I’ve picked up in the past. These were HEAVY!

In the EFT “War of 1812” scene my son was in, General Andrew Jackson and a British officer had these cool hats.

After removing these neat hats from one’s head, they fold flat to be tucked under the arm!

I knew when my son would make his way to this table, he would go nuts over this hat, so I took lots of pictures.

Later my son caught up with me and indeed, he went nuts over the hat.

He made me take a million more pictures of all the detailing.

I don’t know how in the world we could ever recreate this hat for whoever he wants to be in the future, but I’m sure we will.

It’s soft, made of velvet!

Love these mitts with cream accents against the pink and the ruffles.

Demonstrations are beyond fascinating!
