After I hand-stitched my son’s long yearned for first pair of historically accurate breeches last April, I assumed we’d get about a year’s growth out of them.
Last month, after my son barely squeezed into them, he broke the bad news to me, he had outgrown them.
Even though breeches #2 had been in the works, I was down to the wire finishing them up for our next trip to Colonial Williamsburg, which was last weekend.
Conquering them by 2am, I was glad to lay down for six hours before we left for the historic area.
As he put them on later that morning, he gleefully exclaimed that they had the best fit ever!
HANDSEWING DETAILS
This pair were made from 100% linen that was prewashed.
I had lots of practice sewing handstitched buttonholes.
I also handstitched my first eyelets.
My son was also thrilled that his stockings didn’t fall down that weekend, since they remained securely caught at the knee of his breeches.
Furthermore, none of his buttons popped off!
Many thanks to all the historical sewing tips from the tailor!
GUEST PHOTOS WITH THE GUESTS
After our two-day weekend, I took pictures of the latest costumes for my kids. (see header photo)
daughter: hand-sewn draped gown
son: handsewn shirt and breeches, new silk cravat, machine-sewn/hand-sewn waistcoat
After taking pictures of the kids, some guests from abroad asked to take their own photos of my kids.
While one guest took the picture, the others in the party gathered around my kids for a group photo!
